Is it a recessed floyd? I would imagine the route and the string tension like you mentioned would have alot to do with it. If the springs are so tight it might be bottoming the trem out so you can not move it that way anymore. But also if the route is not right maybe the trem is hitting the wood and obstructing it from going that way
