Default Kelly Veneer Question

I had assumed that all USA Kellys had a maple cap as my dearly missed old trans-cherrysomething KE2 did.

However, from the Jackson website specs, it seems that the maple top only comes on the trans-color finishes and not the opaque ones.

It also sounds like the maple "cap" I was imagining is really a veneer.

So, finally, my question - is there a noticeable tonal difference between the two, or is the veneer so thin that the effect is negligible?

I *must* own a USA Kelly again - I had never even considered this question before.

Thanks!
