I'm just stating my opinion from MY experiences with both Jackson and Charvel Custom Shops and production guitars...IMO they aren't worth it and the inherent flaws of each have disuaded me from ever buying another FMIC product.
I, however, LOVE old Jackson's and Charvel's from the San Dimas period...I own 3 San Dimas Charvel's...and IMO they are some of the best playing, best constructed, best sounding guitars ever made...and I also have my namesake Les Paul Custom and Fender Elite Strat in the herd...so I'm not jaded by any means.
Buy and play what you want to, I just gave my opinion on them...in my case it's been pretty negative.....lets see...the Jackson "Big Red" Double Rhoads...had trem issues and alignment issues....along with scarred binding along the neck. The Retro-Bullseye I just didn't get along with the neck profile..loved the pickup...but the neck WAS NOT a Charvel neck..it was a Fender Strat neck...the list goes on....
GMW's are great guitars....fit and finish, playability, tone, quality of workmanship are unparralled IMO...Lee does great work.
The NAMM Charvel may be the exception to the rule...usually companies will go all out on their NAMM pieces and are pretty much perfect to represent the entire line of guitars to the consumers...I think if you pulled a regular production Charvel off the wall and closely inspected it, you'd find problems IMO...
