Old Tube Tech
Some will consider blasphemy.
I was recently reminded of all that really old tube technology that the classics like VH1 were recorded on. Most studios had gone solid state in the late 60's, but there were still a few studios, especially mastering studios where tubes were still king.
All the noise was there, but so was the spacious sounds, the engineers that were used to the equipment, and even connected to servo controlled mixing panels...the real power was delivered through old cloth covered wire and tube amplification and mixers.
There is still talk of analog tech...but who has all those monster pieces of Electric Ladyland...etc?
In a trash heap?
Any one else notice the difference in dynamic range and depth?
It's so easy to get "listener fatigue" though the newer digital recordings.
I'll still take some old Joe Walsh over Seven Mary Three for repeated listening. Somehow there is so much more depth-if not style.
