Default Writing on Different Instruments

Sometimes even drums, or just in your head.

My first melodic influence was a neighbor's old out of tune upright piano. Age 5!
I just loved the way I could imagine tunes in my head and work them out on the keys, even before I knew anything about theory.

Sometimes a tune will come out so strong-it "writes" the bass and drums before anything else comes out.

Anyone else do this?
Write tunes on different instruments than the guitar?
Like get a bug in your ear...can't describe it...and have to show your drummer (or bassist, or another guitarist) what is there before you can build on it?

How about those times it all comes crashing down, and by the time you describe it...it's gone! Dust...and you can't even remember what it was?
