Kevin:
Ned your expertise and a confirmation, or correct me if I'm wrong...I've been diving head-first into theory and the modes and think I'm on the edge of the cup to understanding...
OK...maybe I won't say this right, hopefully this comes through correctly.
Everything in our music system is based off the major scale, which in turn you derive your scales, chords, arpeggios, and modes....the only thing that really changes is the relation of the note/chord/arpeggio you're playing against the tonic "center" of the piece....
So, if this is correct, it's almost a mathmatical solution...basically different "distance" from note-to-note which is a constant, much like a measuring ruler has a constant measurement system.
So, say I'm doing a vamp in C to make it easy...and I want to play a fill or lead and I think "OK, I just want to play a Am pettern over this" to get the minor/b3 feel...but I could also use a Am(7, 9, 11th) arpeggio in that same "space" to get the same "note feel and value" against the C tonic??
R 2 3 4 5 6 7 R
C D E F G A B C
C = Ionian
D = Dorian
E = Phrygian
F = Lydian
G = Mixolydian
A = Aeolean
B = Locrian
But, say I wanted to do a Mixolydian kind of feel, I could play anything within the G chord/scale/arpeggio against the C and it would have the major sound of Mixolydian??
How close am I Kevin to understanding this?? Am I in the same ballpark or did I go to the wrong stadium??
Thanks in advance Kevin.
Oh, also, I asked a question about the possibility of a future DVD for Intelli-Shred in this thread:
Kevin, possibility of a Instructional DVD in the future? Any chance of this happening for us out here in guitarland??
