I'm beginning to realize that there's a buttload of people in this world who have no stinking clue how to conduct a business transaction. As I mentioned to a couple of you guys, I recently put my boat up for sale. Shit, I had bites from Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and Louisiana. Frankly, I was hoping it would be someone fairly local because I didn't want to have to trailer the boat halfway and then try and find a notary.
Anyway, sure enough, a fella in Louisiana called and went apeshit over the boat. He told me that he definitely wanted it and that he'd be in Bossier City tomorrow to pick it up. We agreed over the phone that he'd pay a certain amount in cash and that since he had to only register the trailer with the DMV, I'd prepare a bill of sale seperately from the boat. That way I could help him with registration fees. He agreed and was very appreciative.
This is where it goes to shit. He then tells me that he's waiting on his electronic tax return and that it's supposed to arrive at his bank on Thursday (yesterday). By using his tax refund, he wouldn't have to borrow or finance a used boat at high interest rates. Ok, that's smart. He then says that if the refund does not come in, would I take a check to HOLD the boat for him. At this point, I felt pretty comfortable with the guy, so I told him that as far as I was concerned, I would not accept any other offers but his. He then promised to call me either Thursday or today and let me know if the refund made it to his bank.
Well, I haven't heard shit from the meathead and what really pisses me off is that I specifically told him that I would schedule a notary to handle the transaction. My notary, who is also an attorney friend, can't tie up his whole fucking Saturday for a little pissant transaction such as this.
I've called the potential buyer several times this evening and I guess he's out getting a goddamned snoot full. My gut instinct tells me two things, One, he didn't get his refund. Two, he thinks he's gonna drive up here to Bossier City, leave me a check, and then drive off with my boat. Well guess what, he's gonna be in for one helluva surprise.
Whew, I feel better.
