From my expieriences, staying Eb and drop Db work for most E-C tunings ok, but playing anything normally tuned lower than that it loses it's darker feel. Unfortunately there's no way around it with a variety of covers. I travel with at least 3 guitars every show, 1 tuned Eb, 1 tuned drop Db (if I break a string these are interchangable) and 1 tuned to standard B or drop A for the lower tunings (Korn, Sepultura, Soulfly, Slipknot...etc) Those bands just wouldn't work without the low tuning.
