Default JTM45 Conversion Build

Using a '71 Univox 1236 bass head unit.
Sticker on the back states "100 Watts" (not the wall current, but the supposed output).
On a 2x6L6GCB platform?

Marketing department...they apparently owned all the dope.

Not really being a Marshall guy (much) and certainly never actually played a JTM45 myself, been looking around at other builder's sites about opinions.
First I was thinking about going true vintage and building it with a GZ34/AR4 recto but even I know that's nothing more than a 4-hole Bassman.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
But those builders say their amp is dark, sometimes muddy.
And the "Marshall" sound didn't really develop until later when they went to a solid state diode setup.

Good, fine actually-that is how the Univox is set up.
I am going to take out the original board and rebuild everything including the tube wiring. Univox used obscenely thin wire everywhere.

Same with the KT66's, going with an EL34 setup.

Anyone who has experience with these, the originals..opinions on them as a player?
I don't want "dark and muddy", I want old Marshall tone.

Thx!
