but scales are a major hang up for me. If a scale doesn't have to start on the root of lets say a "C" scale.. then how is it a "C" scale.. I've mentioned this before and It still fucks with me. People always tell me because of the other notes played. I know C scale and Am scale share the same notes.... All scales have the only difference is the root and sharps and flats. You dont' have to play all the notes in a scale either.. So if that's is the case how the fuck do you tell which scale is which?

Below is a C and G Major scale all the same notes but the F# is sharp in the G.. so if I was to play the scale and omit "F" which scale would it be? Since we are playing in the Key of C would it be a "C" scale? and since "G" is the V in a progression would it be a G scale?
